Mel made a difference in my life, I was but a kid watching her on TV in rural Jackson County, AL in the mid to late 80's. I also lived in Hixson, TN in my K year of school (just look back at the kid who won 52 weeks of Ice Cream from Golden Gallon Convenience stores--Good Lord, that was a lot of Ice Cream!)
I am now a communications major at Jacksonville State University concentrating in Journalism and fully intend to carry on what Mel started not only with children of cancer, but Children's Miracle Network and much more. God Bless and Much Love to you all!

I am sure that the entire Tennessee Valley is deeply saddened by the loss of Mary-Ellen.
We all will miss you...

Great post.

This is what a blog for a news organization is for- personal insight. Thank you for sharing you personal thought regarding Mary Ellen. It means a lot.

THANK YOU FOR THIS STORY-I'VE HEARD THE TERM BLOG SPOKEN OF ON TV & NO EXPLAINATION GIVEN FOR WHAT IT MEANS. NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO SPEND ALL THEIR FREE TIME ON THE INTERNET. WHEN YOU WORK ON A COMPUTER AT WORK & HAVE INTERNET ACCESS,THAT'S ENOUGH. WHEN I GO HOME, THAT'S MY TIME. THANK YOU FOR KEEPING ME CURRENT!

I have never blogged before so this is my first. I knew about blogging but haven't had the time.
I am blogging about unemployment. I just found out that as an employer we can reduce the time and labor the state unemployment workers spend processing unemployment claims of employees who are laid off seasonally and temporarily by processing these claims ourselves through the automated partial system. This system has been available for about 10 years. This also gives us, the employer, more control and discourages those employees who want to take advantage of the unemployment system. The employee cannot call in for unemployment after they have returned to work; thus, it decreases the risk of money sent out that should not be sent out (as in overpayment because an employee is lying). In turn, it can allow our state unemployment claims personnel to spend less time recovering these overpaid monies (and legal fees that are incurred for having to prosecute and go after those who lie and receive the money) and are able to turn their attention on those who are there for other unemployment needs.
It would be helpful to communities all over Tennessee if more employers took an active role in using this system that is available.

I stumbled across "Blogs on the Air" this morning. I think doing this on a regular basis is a great idea, if you have the time. By the way, the stars at night are still big and bright down here...

Hi Cindy,
I live on the extreme edge of your broadcast area, in Murphy, NC, and I've been blogging for years -- long before we knew it was blogging!
Welcome to the blogosphere. I think you'll find this to be a unique way to establish two-way communications with your viewers.
I'm in the process of building a portal for Cherokee County, NC, and I incorporate your TV station as one of the news pages on the site:

You can see my local area blog at:

I wish you well with your blogging experiments.
All the best,

Hey every one at channel three I am 20 and I just want to say blogging is a a fantatastic idea I love keeping up with your news.Often us young people do not get to voice an opinion. I think it will draw more young people to catch up on whats going on in our city and hopefully will motivate them to contribute to our town. Great job Cindy Sexton!
May 25 - Jessica
This is the first time I have heard of blogging. This is really cool. Thanks Cindy for informing me about blogging. Keep up the good work.

Welcome to the Chattanooga blogging world! Not that I'm on chattablog, but I'm here in town and caught your blogging report. It wasn't bad... :)
Since we often teach blog information nowdays in computer classes, it's about time the news caught up with us.

Cindy,
Great job with the story. Blogging is an emerging media outlet that most folks are still learning about. You did a great job on the story by starting with the basics that will inform the novice what blogging is. It will be great for you at channel 3 to communicate with your viewers.
Thanks!

Cool blog.

Cindy, I think that WRCB having a blog is a great idea. Although it may just be used for the spot that you just did on the newscast, I sincerely hope to see more updates from you all.
I appreciate the autographs and all the support that you guys have shown.
There is no one better than the guys at Channel 3!
May 25 - John Pulliam
I also hope that Josiah does what he said in the interview.
Josiah, it won't be a diverse community if you refuse blogs to people you don't agree with.
Thanks for finally letting me blog and post. Keep up the open mind.
May 25 - Gregg
That last comment was uncalled for. (I am hoping is it removed but I knew it would happen.)
May 25 - Gregg
Great work, Cindy! You might mention the WGOW interview on blogging tomorrow at 2-4 p.m. with Josiah, myself, and also Bill Colrus and Aaron Mesh of Pulse.
May 25 - Bailes
Cindy awesome. I just watched the first segment at 6. Very good. I wish I could have had the opportunity to go head to head with Mr. Rushing. I'll probably bring up some of his points tomorrow on the air on WGOW.
Looking forward to watching the segment at 6, and I'm really hoping you guys keep blogging on here! We need local news for our generation!
May 25 - JosiahQ
haha... Blogs are cool, but I like webjournals more.
May 25 - tasha
Cindy, we'll get you setup with your own user account so we can tell who's bloggin' it up.
Ron is also going to be doing some tweaking making the site look a little better.

joe here, chiming in with the words of welcome. I had a sneaking suspicion that, of the local network outlets, yours would be the first to blog. (You are, aren't you?)
We'll be watching, as another commenter pointed out.

Well, I am glad for the interest in our great city. Looking forward to your updates and hope that many of your personalities chime in once in a while. (Jed Mescon, I am looking at you!)
